The resort of Cala Bona and the twin resort of Cala Millor are based on the east coast of the Baleric island of Majorca. The two resorts are very close being just a 5 minute taxi fare or a 20 minute walk for the health conscious. A lot of the resorts in Majorca are dominated by either English or German holidaymakers. Cala Bona itself is very much a British resort while Cala Millor is a little unusual as a mixed holiday town in that both English and German tourists flock to in numbers. Cala Bona in Majorca is without doubt the quieter of the two towns making it ideal for young families. In Cala Bona the majority of the evening entertainment is set in local hotels. Cala Bona is probably not for hoidaymakers seeking to go on a pub crawl but Cala Millor offers plenty of night life and as previously mentioned is only a 5 minute taxi fare or a 20 minute walk away.
Cala Bona has expanded from a small Spanish fishing village into a bustling tourist resort on Majorca’s less developed east coast. The original charm of Cala Bona is on view as the resort retains a number of the original narrow streets. The harbour is the liveliest part of the resort of Cala Bona. The harbour has been refurbished recently and now offers a selection of harbourside cafes, bars and restaurants. A number of Cala Bona tourist excursions are available from the harbour.
Cala Bona includes a few small sandy beaches enclosed between man made breakwaters forming calm, sheltered lagoons ideal for swimming and paddling in relative safety. In the last few years the breakwaters appear to have formed a natural trap for seaweed to build up both in the water and on the beach. The local council have started to deal with this problem by removing the seaweed to prevent the problem. The beaches of Cala Bona are now usually in fine fettle as a result of the council’s efforts.
Bus transfers from Palma Airport typically takes about 2 hours to the resorts of Cala Bona or Cala Millor. Car rental in Cala Bona or from Palma de Mallorca (PMI) airport is cost effective by comparison against most other holiday hotspots. If you plan to rent a car from the airport think about getting a decent map or guide to Majorca before you leave.
